What Sets Our Sod Apart

At The Grass Store DFW, we’re family-owned and operated, so it’s personal — and that’s why we do things the right way.

Our sod is grown under strict weed, pest, and fertilization practices on fields built with proper drainage and full irrigation, creating the perfect conditions for strong, healthy turf.

We stay hands-on through every step, keeping the time from harvest to delivery as short as possible so your sod arrives fresh, green, and ready to root. We do it that way because we care about what we sell and the people we sell it to. Quality matters to us, plain and simple.

We don’t just want you to get good grass — we want you to get the kind of grass that makes you say, “Yeah, that’s what I paid for.” That’s the level we hold ourselves to, and it’s exactly why you chose The Grass Store DFW. From the first pallet on your driveway, we’re here to prove you made the right choice.

We Don’t Just Sell Grass — We Stand Behind It

We promise to do our part — providing the best grass possible so your sod arrives fresh, green, and ready to grow. Once it’s in your hands, timing becomes everything. Sod is a living product, and how you handle it after delivery makes all the difference.

Spring and fall are the best times to lay sod. The grass is green, can sit on the pallet a little longer without burning, and missing that first watering isn’t as big of a deal — though staying on top of it is always best. These seasons are more forgiving, and we rarely see customer issues this time of year because the weather does most of the heavy lifting. Just plant it fast and water it in, and you’ll be in good shape.
Summer is when most problems happen, and it almost always comes down to timing. The heat doesn’t give you much room for delay — sod needs to be laid quickly, watered immediately, and given a good, heavy soak right from the start. The Texas sun is unforgiving, and waiting even a little too long can make it tough for new sod to recover. That said, when you stay on top of it, summer can still be a great time to plant. Hot weather actually helps sod root fast — and once it’s fully rooted, usually within about a week, you’re in the clear. The first day is critical, and so are the next few, so keeping up with watering early on makes all the difference.

Winter is when the grass goes dormant — it’s basically sleeping through the cold months. Most people don’t think about planting this time of year, but it’s actually one of the easiest times to do it. Cool temperatures mean less stress on the sod, and it only needs a little water to stay healthy. We rarely see any issues in winter — just avoid planting on days when it’s below freezing, just to be safe. About a week after planting, check for roots starting to poke out from the sod for peace of mind that it’s taking hold. By the time spring rolls around, it’ll already be rooted and ready to green up beautifully.

️ IMPORTANT
Our guarantee is simple — your sod is covered for the first 24 hours after delivery.

If something doesn’t look right, reach out to us within that window and we’ll make it right.
After that, it becomes difficult for us to know what happened once the sod was delivered, and that’s why communication and proper care are so important.

We’ll always do our part, but once it’s in your yard, it’s a team effort. We’re here to help you get there — it just takes both of us working together to make it a success. When your grass looks good, we both win.
Keep Your Grass Happy (and Alive!)

To-Do:

  • Install and water your sod as soon as possible after delivery — the sooner, the better.
If you have to let it sit for a bit before installation, keep it in a shady spot if possible to help prevent heat buildup.
  • Keep new sod consistently watered for the first few days, especially during hot weather.
Order sod for the same day you plan to install it to keep it fresh.
  • Check for roots starting to grow about a week after planting for peace of mind.

Not-To-Do:

  • Don’t let sod sit too long before installation — especially in the summer heat.
  • Don’t water sod while it’s still on the pallet — it intensifies the heat buildup and will burn the grass.
  • Don’t plant on days below freezing — wait for temperatures to warm up.
  • Don’t skip that first deep watering — it’s critical for helping roots establish quickly.
  • Don’t wait to contact us if you’re unsure about something — time is critical, and we’re here to help.
